We planned to reach Tai O via the popular Ngong Ping 360 cable car, but faced a lengthy queue. Opting for a local bus instead, we used Google Maps to find the bus stop and embarked on a scenic 45-minute journey. The bus, accepting both Octopus cards and cash, proved to be an unexpected highlight, offering breathtaking views along the way.
Arriving at Tai O’s bus terminus, a short walk led us to the iconic bridge spanning the waterway. The area is bustling with charming local shops, offering a diverse array of goods.
Near the bridge, we discovered an affordable speed boat tour for about £5 for a 20-minute ride. This delightful excursion took us through the picturesque creek and out into the Pearl River estuary.
Our return journey by bus required a brief wait as the first bus was full, but another arrived shortly after.
